The Pennsylvania Maple Festival was established in 1948 by a group of civic-minded Meyersdale individuals to promote the area’s maple industry. For the last 75 years, the Festival has been organized and conducted with the help of numerous local volunteers, in cooperation with many organizations including the Somerset County Maple Producers Association, the Meyersdale Lions Club, the Somerset County Chamber of Commerce, Meyersdale Area Merchants’ Association and the Laurel Highlands Visitors Bureau.
Guests to the Pennsylvania Maple Festival view and participate in every step of the maple sugaring process, from tapping trees to partaking in a pancake and sausage dinner served with pure Somerset County maple syrup. There are also many other attractions for the tens of thousands of people who attend the two-weekend festival every spring: tours of the historic Meyers Homestead, Meyersdale’s oldest residence; Civil War reenactments; local arts and crafts; classic automobile shows; agricultural fair exhibits; the ever-popular quilt show and the “Legend of the Magic Water” Historical Pageant, presented by a group of talented community volunteers.
